Queensborough Announces Local Scholarship Recipients

Jackson Dowdy, a senior at Thomas Jefferson Academy in Louisville, GA and Hannah Posey, a senior at Edmund Burke Academy in Waynesboro, GA were recently selected as recipients of the 2024 Julian and Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) and funded by CBA and its membership.

CBA awarded a total of four $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors across the state. Applications were submitted to the association through CBA member community banks, like Queensborough National Bank.

In addition to the Jan and Julian Hester Memorial Scholarship, Queensborough awarded an additional $500 scholarship to Dalton and Hannah as well as William McNeely, a senior at Thomas Jefferson Academy in Louisville, GA based off their scholarship submissions.

The Jan and Julian Hester Memorial Scholarship is named for the late Jan Hester, daughter of Lalia and the late Julian Hester, long-time CEO of the CBA. The scholarship program began in 1990 and is based on merit. To compete, students must write a short essay on the characteristics of a community bank, and the continuing benefits they offer to their home communities. In addition to supporting community banking, this scholarship fund is an opportunity to pass on the positive qualities both Julian & Jan Hester exemplified to further the development of tomorrow’s generations.

Congratulations to Jackson, Hannah and William on their scholarships and upcoming graduations!
