See where your money goes.

Make a list of everything you spend money on. Include mortgage, utilities, car payments, streaming entertainment subscriptions, eating out, groceries, the daily coffee stop – everything!

Prioritize your spending.

Some expenses (like utilities and mortgages) are pretty hard to avoid, but do you need four streaming video services or a daily $5 latte from your local coffee shop? We’re not saying you should cut it all out, but look at your expenses with a critical eye and prioritize what’s important to you.

Make a budget.

Total your income for the month and subtract those prioritized expenditures. Plan to save a certain amount every month and be sure to focus on paying off high interest debt early.

Stick to your budget!

Probably the most challenging aspect of budgeting is sticking to the budget you have made. With your goals in mind, ask yourself if new purchases are in line with the priorities you have set and if the new purchase will help you reach your goals or delay them.
